Plasma, a stablecoin infrastructure startup backed by investors linked to Peter Thiel, has officially launched Plasma One, a neobank focused on digital dollars that aims to concentrate banking services, payments, and blockchain-based features in a single application.
The news caught the market's attention and contributed to an increase of approximately 20% in the XPL token's value in the last few hours. Despite the positive reaction, the asset still remains approximately 94% below its record high registered in September 2025, according to market data.
Plasma One was developed on the Plasma Network, the company's proprietary blockchain created to offer stablecoin transactions with reduced costs. The platform allows users to deposit fiat currency or stablecoins, make international transfers without fees, earn interest on account balances, and use a digital Visa card for payments.
According to the company, one of the main obstacles to the mass adoption of stablecoins is the need to use different services to store funds, trade assets, and make payments. Plasma One's proposal is to eliminate this fragmentation by integrating liquidity, blockchain infrastructure, and banking functionalities into a single environment.
“Stablecoins won’t become part of everyday banking through yet another app that relies on third-party infrastructure. They need a product that integrates the entire experience. That’s what Plasma One was created for,” commented Paul Faecks, founder of Plasma, during the launch.
In addition to financial resources, the platform offers benefits linked to the XPL token. These include cashback programs and premium subscriptions that include services such as ChatGPT Go and Claude Pro. According to the company, payments made through the digital card are accepted in more than 180 countries.
“The global supply of stablecoins has practically doubled in the last two years, but supply is not synonymous with adoption. Adoption happens when someone can download Plasma One, register in minutes, and start using digital dollars without worrying about blockchains, wallets, or banking systems — paying for lunch, sending money around the world in seconds, or earning interest on their savings,” said Zaheer Ebtikar, Plasma's chief strategy officer.
During the private beta phase, the company reported reaching 5 active users per week. The expectation is to gradually expand the features aimed at both consumers and businesses.
The launch comes less than a year after Plasma completed a token sale that raised $373 million. The operation was supported by Founders Fund, Framework Ventures, Bitfinex, and other cryptocurrency investors.
Plasma acts as a Bitcoin-based, EVM-compliant Layer 1 blockchain, developed to facilitate stablecoin settlements with reduced costs and greater efficiency in global operations.
