Morpho Midnight introduces Quoter Bot for automated market quoting on its fixed-rate lending protocol
Morpho has open-sourced a new tool called Quoter Bot, designed to automate market quoting on Morpho Midnight, the protocol’s fixed-rate, fixed-term lending layer. The bot generates quotes pegged to a reference rate, giving market makers a lightweight way to provide continuous liquidity in Midnight’s orderbook-style markets.
The release, tagged quoter-bot-2026.08.14-5, arrives less than a month after Midnight itself went live on July 21. For a protocol managing over $12 billion in deposits across its broader credit network, the tooling signals that Morpho is serious about making Midnight’s maker-taker model actually functional at scale.
What Midnight actually does, and why it needs a bot
Morpho Blue, the protocol’s established lending layer, operates on variable rates. Midnight flips that model entirely. On Midnight, lenders and borrowers negotiate fixed rates and fixed terms through signed maker offers. A lender posts an offer saying “I’ll lend USDC at 5% for 30 days against cbBTC collateral,” and a borrower can take the other side.
These offers live in a mempool and get matched on-chain. The architecture is deliberately minimal: roughly 1,100 lines of immutable EVM code.
Without active market makers continuously updating their quotes as conditions shift, the orderbook dries up. Rather than requiring sophisticated trading firms to build custom quoting software from scratch, Morpho is providing an open-source baseline. The bot takes a reference rate as input and generates quotes around it.
The capital efficiency angle
When a lender posts a maker offer on Midnight, their capital isn’t just sitting idle in a smart contract. Existing Morpho Blue positions can continue accruing variable yield while the Midnight order waits for a counterparty. A lender earns floating rates on Morpho Blue right up until the moment their fixed-rate Midnight offer gets filled.
The initial launch started with a single market, cbBTC/USDC on Base. Base, Coinbase’s L2, offers lower transaction costs than Ethereum mainnet, which matters for a system where market makers might need to update quotes frequently.
Fixed rates in DeFi: a persistent gap
The broader context for Midnight is that fixed-rate lending in DeFi has been one of the space’s most persistent unfulfilled promises. Protocols like Notional, Yield Protocol, and Element have all taken shots at the problem. Yield Protocol shut down entirely.
The $12 billion in deposits across Morpho’s broader network gives it a meaningful advantage over previous fixed-rate experiments. There’s already a large pool of capital within the Morpho ecosystem that could be redirected toward Midnight markets, and the dual-yield mechanism removes what would otherwise be a significant friction point for lenders doing so.

The Nasdaq 100 Index fell by 6.4%, wiping out $2.3 trillion in market capitalization. The core reason behind this decline is concerns that a comprehensive victory by the Democratic Party could lead to stricter regulations on AI development. Systematic funds, which typically follow the stock market's trend and respond to price fluctuations and momentum signals, were thus forced to reduce their investments, accelerating the downturn. The selling pressure from systematic strategies may not be over yet; it is expected that in the coming days, portfolios targeting volatility will sell at least $50 billion worth of stocks.
