Hyperliquid (HYPE) Burns Nearly 5% of Token Supply as Lifetime Revenue Hits $1.38 Billion

The supply reduction happens automatically: the protocol converts fee revenue into continuous token buybacks from the open market as the platform's historical revenue has surpassed the $1.38 billion mark.

The mechanism relies on the Assistance Fund, a system smart contract without private keys, whose balance was officially recognized as burned in December 2025 by a decision of 85% of the network's validators. Between 97% and 99% of the exchange's trading fees are directed here.

Over the past 24 hours, this engine destroyed 19,700 HYPE (about $1.59 million) against daily protocol fees of $1.69 million. Of the platform's $1.38 billion in total revenue, $63.52 million was generated over the past 30 days.

Three non-obvious ways to burn crypto

In addition to standard trading fees, Hyperliquid's architecture uses additional automated deflation channels:

  • AQAv2 yield routing
  • Gas burning in HyperEVM
  • HIP-3 developer penalties

Since the buyback is strictly denominated in US dollars, the exact rate of token destruction fluctuates depending on the market. At current asset prices of around $78–$80, the net volume of tokens withdrawn per dollar of fees decreases.

The ecosystem's long-term deflationary status now directly depends on whether fee generation can consistently outpace the scheduled vesting for the team and early contributors, which adds about 9.9 million HYPE tokens to circulation every month.

At the current pace of 19,700 tokens per day, buybacks would absorb roughly 591,000 HYPE per month, offsetting only about 6% of these unlocks, which means net circulating supply is still expanding despite the burn.
