$GRVT A 99.91% token-weighted vote can make an architectural break look inevitable. In Starknet’s case, it does not. The seven-day poll opened on October 15 asks STRK holders whether the network should research becoming an independent, post-quantum Layer 1; it does not authorize a migration away from Ethereum. That distinction is central to the debate. Roughly 177.6 million STRK had been cast at one point, with 99.91% supporting research, according to The Block. But the poll is non-binding, and participating wallets were far fewer than the token-weighted tally might suggest. A Yes result opens a process of research and subsequent proposals; a No result keeps the work within Starknet’s Ethereum L2 model. The substantive question is therefore narrower, and more difficult, than whether Starknet should “go quantum.” The network’s proposal contends that it can upgrade components under its control relatively soon, while its dependence on Ethereum fixes the timetable for other critical functions. An independent chain could control that schedule. It would also take responsibility for security, consensus, data availability and the practical costs of deploying post-quantum cryptography—work that Ethereum itself is already planning to undertake. A 99.91% vote is backing research, not an L1 migration The governance question is deliberately framed as an exploratory one. Starknet’s community proposal says a Yes vote would initiate research and later proposals on an independent post-quantum L1. It would not itself alter settlement arrangements, change the network’s consensus model or detach Starknet from Ethereum. That scope matters because the early result measures support for investigating optionality, not necessarily support for accepting the trade-offs of independence. A token holder can favor a study of post-quantum migration paths without committing to a chain that no longer inherits Ethereum settlement and security characteristics. The smaller wallet participation count also counsels against treating the striking voting-power figure as a broad community referendum on every downstream design choice. Nor is the proposal a vote to abandon familiar parts of Starknet’s ecosystem. It states that STRK would remain the token and that Ethereum bridges would stay open under either route. The strategic issue is whether Starknet should retain its current role as an Ethereum-settled validity rollup while adapting its own stack, or investigate a structure that gives it authority over more of the cryptographic timetable. Ethereum dependency is the post-quantum constraint Starknet cannot upgrade alone Starknet’s proposal says the network-controlled parts of its stack could become quantum-resistant relatively soon. It presents hash-based STARK proofs and native account abstraction as advantages. According to the proposal, users could adopt post-quantum signatures without a protocol-wide upgrade, while other quantum-sensitive surfaces are tracked separately. That leaves an uneven upgrade path in which Starknet controls some surfaces. The remaining constraint sits at the Ethereum boundary. Starknet’s bridge and data-availability commitments as an Ethereum L2 depend on Ethereum’s upgrade timetable, which the proposal identifies as the limiting factor. Improving Starknet’s signature choices does not independently resolve the properties of the systems through which it commits data and connects assets to Ethereum. That is the basis for considering an L1: control over the broader migration path, not a claim that STARK proofs alone solve the post-quantum transition. Starknet may be able to upgrade parts of its own environment sooner, though it cannot unilaterally determine the post-quantum posture of the Ethereum layer on which its current model relies. Independence would bring those decisions into Starknet’s governance and engineering perimeter, and its value depends on whether timing and design flexibility outweigh what would be lost by leaving the rollup model. Independence would exchange inherited Ethereum security for cryptographic schedule control An independent Starknet L1 would control its cryptographic upgrades, consensus and data-availability roadmap. It would also determine how its chain reaches consensus, makes data available and maintains security as cryptographic assumptions and implementation requirements change. Starknet’s roadmap describes a different current direction: an Ethereum-settled rollup with progressive decentralization through future staking and validator phases. Becoming a standalone base layer would not simply extend that process. It would require Starknet to own the full security and data-availability stack rather than continue progressively decentralizing within an Ethereum-settled design. The resulting autonomy would let a standalone chain set its own post-quantum sequencing and upgrade schedule instead of waiting for changes to Ethereum’s underlying layer. The price of that control is that difficult security decisions would shift to Starknet’s own protocol, governance and development process, while the inherited Ethereum settlement and security framework would be given up. Ethereum’s 2029 post-quantum target weakens the case for a simple urgency-driven exit Ethereum’s official post-quantum roadmap says core Layer 1 upgrades could be completed around 2029, though full execution-layer migration would take longer. That weakens a simple urgency-driven case for Starknet independence without resolving the timing problem for Ethereum-dependent components. Independence would mainly buy Starknet control over migration pace and architecture. It could choose its own path instead of waiting for Ethereum coordination, but would not represent a straightforward move from an unprepared Ethereum environment to a prepared independent chain. Starknet would also risk duplicating infrastructure and security work already underway while taking on the relevant base-layer functions itself. Conversely, a timely Ethereum upgrade could let Starknet remain an L2, retain Ethereum settlement benefits and reduce the dependency behind the proposal. The poll therefore concerns optionality under uncertainty, not Ethereum’s immediate preparedness; further research must establish whether schedule control merits the added responsibilities. The unresolved L1 burden is not only signatures Post-quantum readiness is often described through the visible layer of signatures. Starknet’s account-abstraction model may make user adoption of post-quantum signatures more flexible than a protocol-wide change. Even so, the technical burden of an independent L1 extends well beyond a user’s signing method. Ethereum’s quantum-resistance roadmap identifies larger post-quantum signatures and more expensive verification as material constraints. It also notes that there is no direct post-quantum replacement for BLS aggregation and stresses the need for extensive auditing. Those are deployment and operational problems, not merely a matter of selecting a cryptographic primitive. If Starknet becomes independent, such constraints would remain relevant and could become directly its responsibility. Larger signatures can affect system design; higher verification costs can affect the economics and performance envelope of a network; aggregation limitations complicate a capability that existing infrastructure may rely on. Audit work is similarly not a cosmetic final stage, particularly where a chain is altering security-critical assumptions. Starknet’s use of hash-based STARK proofs is a genuine starting advantage in the proposal’s argument, but it does not remove the bridge, data-availability, consensus and implementation questions that define a base layer. Ethereum’s target of core L1 upgrades around 2029, alongside the longer execution-layer migration it anticipates, sets the comparison that Starknet’s research would need to answer: whether controlling the calendar is worth independently carrying the infrastructure that the calendar requires. $GRVT While the broader market is attempting to recover, Starknet (STRK) is trading around $0.05962 after a sharp 4% decline in value. The current price chart has yet to signal a clear recovery pattern; the next move depends on whether buyers can defend support and drive momentum higher. A sustained move above could strengthen the recovery and open the way higher. The asset’s 24-hour range is found between $0.05851 and $0.06474. In addition, STRK’s seven-day trading range falls between $0.05851 and $0.1073. Also, the daily trading volume has reached the $100.259 million mark. On the 4-hour price graph, Starknet displays a negative outlook, with the formation of red candlesticks. The price could likely slip to the nearest support zone at $0.058. With the bears gaining more traction, the death cross would take place, and the price might drop to previous lows, below $0.05754. Assuming a reversal within the Starknet market, the bulls might emerge and send the price back to the resistance range at around $0.060. Further pressure on the upside may trigger the emergence of the golden cross. It would gradually initiate the price to climb higher toward the $0.06155 mark. Can Starknet Momentum Flip Its Bearish Streak? Zooming in on the technical chart of STRK, the Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) line sits below the signal line. Both are found below the zero line, indicating strong, accelerating bearish momentum. There is a dominant downtrend where sellers are in firm control. The momentum shift shows that recent downward momentum is increasing, making short-term price drops more likely. This is a classic bearish setup suggesting the downtrend is actively continuing rather than weakening. Traders avoid buying during this phase and wait for a bullish crossover. Furthermore, the daily Relative Strength Index (RSI) reading for Starknet is at 31.03, suggesting it is sitting at the edge of oversold territory. With heavy selling pressure, the recent price drops have been intense, with sellers firmly dominating the market. The downward momentum may lose steam, making the price bounce increasingly likely. While it signals that an asset is overextended to the downside, assets can stay oversold during strong downtrends. Traders look for a bullish crossover back above 30 or a bullish divergence. $GRVT While the wider market signaled a recovery from the recent sell-offs, Starknet wasn’t so lucky as it struggled under massive bearish pressure. In fact, since facing rejection at $0.12, the altcoin has closed at lower lows on the charts. Previously, the altcoin rallied amid speculation as investors turned bullish on its L1 plans for 2027. However, that speculation has since faded. Over the last 24 hours, for example, $STRK breached the $0.07-support, hitting a low of $0.069. At the time of writing, Starknet was trading at around $0.0707, down 15% on the daily charts. The price drop was accompanied by a 60% decline in volume, indicating a sharp market slowdown as investors stayed away. Starknet long liquidations add to selling pressure This extended decline on Starknet’s charts has seen bulls flushed out, with over $2 million in long positions liquidated. The long liquidations increased selling pressure, further weakening the market. With liquidation risk remaining high, traders have significantly reduced their exposure too. In fact, according to CoinGlass, over the last 24 hours, the altcoin has recorded $249 million in Futures outflows. The selling pressure was even more intense over shorter timeframes. Over eight hours, Futures Netflow dropped to -$3.22 million as $41.98 million flowed out of the Futures market. Typically, when sellers dominate the derivatives market, selling pressure can increase, resulting in further losses. Protocol outflows exceed $59 million In addition to sustained market exits, significant capital has flowed out of the protocol too. On 16th October, Protocol USD Inflows fell into negative territory, hitting -$59 million. A negative value alluded to higher outflows as users withdrew funds. Often, higher protocol outflows could mean a fall in user participation and, in many cases, greater selling pressure too. What’s next for $STRK? As it stands, $STRK is under pressure from two sides. Derivatives traders have lost confidence in the market, while the protocol is also seeing capital outflows. As a result, southbound momentum has strengthened significantly. A look at the Relative Strength Index (RSI) seemed to support this bearish outlook too. Since forming a bearish crossover three days ago, the RSI has remained on a downward trajectory, falling to 53. A falling RSI is indicative of weakening momentum. A drop below 50 would provide further evidence of increasing bearish pressure. Therefore, if the current selling pressure continues, Starknet is likely to drop to $0.062, with October rally’s starting point at $0.055 acting as critical support. However, a daily close above $0.075 would invalidate this bearish setup and open a path to reclaim $0.08 in the short term.
